Continued from Stability Rebuild
Transmitter (mounted inside antenna housing):

Recent FCC rule changes require existing 23 GHz licensees and applicants to meet tighter frequency stability and new channel assignments if interference to other users exists. Microwave Advances can "rebuild" older radios that require tighter frequency tolerances in order to continue in use. Otherwise, they must be removed from service.
This eliminates the need to purchase new radios at a much greater expense.

Our standard rebuild radio is labeled in the Micro 23- line
, and consists of the licensee radio with the addition of our new 0.001% phase -lock loop. This allows the old radio transmitter to be re-used on the new frequency assigned with the addition of tighter stability. Such radios are then unlikely to be removed from the channel by the actions of another applicant. The old receiver (with 1 ft dish) may also be re-built to the 0.001% frequency phase- lock for no-drift performance. An optional low -noise amplifier upgrade that adds 8 dB additional threshold performance and increased fade margin is also available.

We also offer the Micro23-2 line of radios. In many cases, these operate at similar power levels, but they use external antennas such as 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 ft. dishes with the RFU box mounted either on the antenna or nearby on a tower, roof, or wall pipe-mount. The RFU is connected to the antenna feed flange by a section of flex-guide (for shorter distances), with the addition of a low-loss waveguide for longer distances. These mounting arrangements permit access to the RFU for removal for convenient servicing without needing to re-aim or remove the antenna.

Receiver (mounted inside antenna housing):
The receiver may also be returned to the factory for re-build  options. This includes re-tune to the new transmitter frequency channel. If the unit is outside the filter range, it may require a new filter. The receiver may need to be readjusted to zerobeat with the transmitter on the new Part 101 channel assignment.

A phase -lock loop may need to be installed to correct excessive receiver frequency drift. In such cases, the entire microwave radio can be system tested to insure best phase and gain on the new center frequency. Enhanced threshold improvement with a low-noise LNA is available for nominal 8 dB threshold improvement. This will improve fade margin signifigantly. With this option, an interference study will be necessary.

Typical delivery for the re-build -is 2 weeks to 30 days. We include information on changes and performance data. Minor radio problems we encounter on initial examination and repair will be at no additional cost.

Micro 23 Series radios provide video licensees with a cost-effective solution to the continued use of their older radios. Contact our main office or the rep. in your area with any questions and pricing information.
